Janique Parrott-Gaffney created Literacy Without Limits after a decade as a middle and high school special education teacher in Washington, D.C. and Maryland. While she loved teaching, she became concerned about the number of students in her classes who had not mastered basic reading skills, and despite regularly attending school, were still not learning to read.
From there, Literacy Without Limits was born. Over the years, she has increased her professional knowledge. In 2016, she began training as an Academic Therapist, a specialist trained to remediate mild to severe reading difficulties, at the Atlantic Seaboard Dyslexia Education Center in Rockville, MD, and has participated in numerous workshops and courses related to structured literacy, learning disabilities, and written expression. She holds a bachelor's degree in English from Bryn Mawr College and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Brown University.
She is active in her community. She serves on the Board of The International Dyslexia Association, DC Capital Area Branch, and is a former board member of Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD). She lives in Upper Marlboro, MD, with her husband C.J.
